📝The data is in!
As of writing this article, we have conducted assessments on exactly 240 Stage 1 Slaters!
We’ve had at least two sets of eyes from our highly trained staff on each Evaluation to ensure maximum accuracy.
👁️Have a look at the distribution chart below:
You can see there is certainly a bell curve here! Many fall in the Manager Level, formerly known as Level 3. Only two players made it to President so far. No one has reached Professor, our highest Level…yet.
🤔What are some of the key differentiators between the Manager and Director?
One of the first ones we look at is the third shot. Speed control is the main theme of the Manager. How fast and accurate is your drive? How high is it going over the net? Does it have a modicum of spin? Is there a drop attempt? Does the drop effectively land in the non-volley zone?
Another is when all players have successfully recovered at the non-volley zone. If you properly made your way up there, we look at how effective your speed ups and power shots are. We also look at if you effectively can maintain a dink rally when situationally appropriate without popping it up on the second or third shot, if you even dink at all.
Another is if your backhand side is reasonably effective. There are many players who have a solid forehand, but when it goes to the backhand, it’s unbearably a different situation. No offense. 😉
Technique is a part of the equation, and it becomes a primary reason holding back Managers from being considered for Director. Technique creates the motor control skills necessary to execute the tactics of pickleball, and since the tactical demands are higher for Manager, technique becomes increasingly important.
