The Brookside Backcourt is opening to play and programming on Tuesday, October 1. Now you’re wondering, why not September 30? Well, the weather last week was not conducive to the paint drying. We wanted a high amount of acrylic layers to increase the quality of the court surface, which means more drying time. But the cooler, wetter weather put us back a day. The lines were painted today, and were dry lunchtime, but we don’t want to take any risks which is why we canceled all programming for today. And we ran into another issue…there weren’t enough fences to cover the court! But we scrambled and worked hard and got everything set up by 5pm.
It’s the nature of construction! So many factors go into it, so it’s very difficult to predict timeframe, especially with an operation as complex and new as ours.
With the indoor facility, the true and full Slate experience, everything is lined up for the November 4th open, but there are still so many variables! We have a complex amount of lighting, technology, and acoustic walling/fencing. And of course the court installation!
As I’m now typing this, it is Monday night, and after a lot of hard-last minute work by the whole team, the Brookside Backcourt is looking great. We’ll be ready to rumble tomorrow. One day late, but it was a necessary delay. See you soon.
